An armed man was killed by police after trying to steal a helicopter at a small airport in Oregon on July 3.
The man jumped a fence at Hillsboro Airport near Portland, Oregon.
He waved a pistol and fired a shot near an instructor and student. His shot appeared to be deliberately directed away from the two.
Police arrived before the thief could take off. The thief fled on foot and was shot by police.
“I heard like six or seven pop sounds and then I saw a bunch of cops running across the parking lot,” said witness Alex Rupe.
“All of a sudden we saw police running across the road. Saw like four or five fire trucks, a couple of ambulances, and then we saw the crime scene and we were like, better stay back because I don’t want to get involved in that,” he said.
The would-be thief’s motives are as yet unknown.
