A man who threw a drink in the face of a teenager and stole his Make America Great Again hat has been fired from his job at a Texas bar.
Hunter Richard, 16, was at a San Antonio Whataburger fast food resaurant early in the morning on July 4 with two of his friends when a man approached the table, stole Richard’s hat, took a drink from the table a threw it into Richard’s face. He then walked away with the hat, saying it will end up in his fireplace while cursing and calling the teenager names.
“Alright, have fun with it,” Richard is heard saying in the cellphone video taken by Richard.
The red “MAGA” hat sports a campaign slogan of President Donald Trump and has become a signature apparel of some of his supporters.
Richard told Fox 29 the man pulled some of his hair when stealing the hat.
“I support my President and if you don’t let’s have a conversation about it instead of ripping my hat off. I just think a conversation about politics is more productive for the entire whole rather than taking my hat and yelling subjective words to me,” he said.
Later that day, the man was arrested, police said.
A local bar posted a comment on its Facebook page saying the man worked for it part-time and was fired upon the video’s surfacing “as his actions go against everything that this establishment stands for.”
“THIS BAR IS A SAFE SPACE FOR EVERYONE! No matter your race, creed, ethnicity, sexual identity, and political stance, you are welcomed here!” the establishment stated. “We do not condone the actions or behavior that were displayed in the cell phone video, and we never will.”
The bar appears to have since taken down its Facebook page. Its phone number appears to have been taken off its website too.
Whataburger distanced itself from the man’s actions and said none of its employees were involved in the incident.
Both Richard’s mother and one of his friends said the incident was unprovoked.
“We were completely minding our business,” wrote Twitter user Brax, who said his hands are visible in the video on the left.
