British police have arrested a man carrying knives on April 27. He is suspected of planning a terrorist attack.
He was arrested on Whitehall, the street lined with government buildings. It is also close to Prime Minister Theresa May’s residence. She was not at her residence at the time.
The police were carrying out a counterterrorism operation when they stopped the man.
Just last month an Islamic attacker killed five people with a vehicle and a knife, near the British Parliament. Security around the area has been tightened since the March 22 attack.
No one was injured in the latest incident.
The man is being held at a London police station. At least three knives were found where he was arrested.
Police said there has been a surge in knife crimes in London in the past year.
Britain’s international terrorism level is at “severe,” meaning an attack is highly likely.
