Rare articles of impeachment have been released against a cabinet member, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Republicans say ousting him is the only viable option.
Simon Hankinson, a senior research fellow at the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation, told NTD that he believes many lawmakers haven’t even read the impeachment articles, nor do they have a solid grasp of the legal nature of the impeachment process, meaning they tend to resort to partisan talking points.
“If the House votes to impeach, then it goes to the Senate,” he said. “Based on the makeup of the Senate presently, the chances of Mayorkas being convicted … is pretty unlikely.”
