Mayor Admires Shen Yun’s Modesty and Virtue

Michael Kourianos, mayor of Price in Utah, traveled a hundred miles with his wife to see a Shen Yun performance in Salt Lake City on March 16.

He formally welcomed back the performers to Eccles Theater with a proclamation after enjoying a performance he attended a few years ago.

“Two years ago I bought tickets for my wife for her birthday,” wrote Mayor Kourianos. “We had no idea what we were in store for. From the time the curtain went up until the end of the performance we were in awe.”

“What I like about the performance is, it’s very tastefully done,” he said. “And the modest dress and the classical Chinese dance is just beautiful. The costumes are just out of this world. That’s what catches your eye … from the time the curtain goes up, you’re just watching this performance and how tastefully it’s done. Every step, everything is done very well.”

“It makes you feel calm and peace. But then again, it makes you feel sad because of the persecution and everything that they’re experiencing … and it’s being experienced right now.”

He was referring to the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, a peaceful group of people who are unable to practice their meditation discipline in China.

“You stand strongly for what you believe in. And that is admired, because in this day and age, it’s going away. Especially the principles and values that you are taught from a young age, you stand strong.”

“When they said you couldn’t see this in China, that’s what stood out to me, is that you feel strongly for what you believe, and you’re willing to share that with everybody. People don’t realize that and the freedom that we have here in America.”

He intends to see it again.

“My wife wants to get up higher, I want to get closer. So we’ll see who wins on that one.”
