The Mexico government is offering jobs to the caravan migrants.
At a Tijuana camp in Mexico, migrants signed up for work visas on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
“It’s the best option for Hondurans, for Central Americans … to get this permission to work,” said Tomas Armesa, a Honduran migrant.
“We have had success with the number of foreigners (registering),” said Mexican government official, Nayla Rangel, who added that more than 2 thousand people have been processed since Nov. 19. “Companies are ready to hire. When they (migrants) have their employment number from immigration they can be hired formally when they receive an offer of employment.”
Most of the jobs offered are in factories.
According to Reuters, several members of the caravan said they prefer to stay put in Mexico than to risk rejection by entering the United States illegally.
“I wanted to go to the United States but for the time being I don’t think anyone can. So, it’s better to find a job here in the meantime and to set myself up here until things calm down,” said Delvi Yoselin, another Honduran migrant.
Temporary identification papers and jobs are offered to migrants who register for asylum in Mexico.
