A young woman has come forward after an infant was discovered in a Texas cemetery on March 11.
The unidentified 18-year-old presented herself to the Carrollton Texas Police Department claiming to be the mother of a baby whose tiny body was recovered at Perry Cemetery in Carollton, 18 miles northwest of Dallas.
She came forward after seeing media coverage that a caretaker had made the ghastly discovery and agreed to cooperate with authorities throughout the investigation.

Police said the infant was a girl and appeared to be between 34-weeks-old and full term, weighing just under six pounds.
“On Monday, March 11, 2019 a caretaker at the Perry Cemetery, 1805 N. Perry Road, emptied what he knew to be an out of place flowerpot and discovered the body of a deceased infant beneath the pot’s soil,” police said in a statement on Facebook dated April 1. “Detectives are still investigating the circumstances, awaiting test results, and awaiting consultation with the Dallas County District Attorney’s office.”

Many concerned citizens expressed their shock and horror after learning about the baby’s death.
“It’s such a shame. There are resources that could’ve been used, no matter what the circumstances were,” Caitlyn Mclaughlin said. “This poor little baby girl.”
Another lady, Debbie Johnson Prothro, had a message for the mother. “I’m praying for you sweet girl if you happen to see this,” she. “I don’t know why you would do something like this, and I’m not gonna judge you because sometimes we just need someone to help us … I’m sorry you felt alone.”

One person felt the young mother should have taken greater responsibility for her baby.
“I don’t care what happen[ed] she needs to be charged, no baby deserves this,” Allyassia Flores said. “I know you guys [police] are working with her, so I’m going to let y’all do your job but still I can’t see why anyone would do this.”
“She is 18, she should have known better. I am sorry but no baby—whether born alive or dead—deserves to be abandoned in a flower planter. She discarded this baby like yesterday’s garbage,” Jennifer Seymour said. “With the resources we have at our disposal these days and the ability to do research at our fingertips—I have a hard time believing she did this because she had no idea of what else to do. [Many] 18-year-olds today are well aware of things and aren’t ‘little house on the prairie’ naive.”
Others defended the young mom saying that the public should not be so hasty to judge her actions without hearing all the facts.
“We don’t know what she’s going through. I was a young mom, people can make very bad choices during desperate and scary times,” Kay Abel said. “Maybe she didn’t have any support or guidance. The fact that she came forward speaks to the guilt and shame she must feel, let’s be thankful for that. She deserves to be heard and loved through this ordeal.”
“Don’t judge this woman! You don’t know her circumstances,” Teresa Lakey Logan said. “Instead lift this young woman up in prayer. That precious baby is in heaven for sure.”
The investigation is continuing.
