The third round of peace talks are set to take place in Burma (also known as Myanmar). Residents are cautiously hopeful for peace.

The May 24 talks aim to end fighting between the military and Burma’s many ethnic groups. The talks include officials from the military and government along with representatives from armed ethnic groups.

Earlier ceasefire agreements have not ensured lasting peace. Some experts think further peace talks will not be effective. Previous agreements between state authorities and ethnic groups plunged Myanmar into decades of civil war. Burma’s people are depending on them to work out.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi promised to prioritize the peace process.
