Linda Murray, BabyCenter’s senior vice president of consumer experience and global editor in chief, spoke about the underlying reasons for the top baby names.
Sophia “has worldwide appeal, it’s pronounceable in multiple languages, and it’s feminine and sophisticated all at once,” Murray said in a press release.
“As for Jackson, it’s a modern twist on the old classic Jack,” Murray added.
The findings, which are released annually by BabyCenter, are based on hundreds of thousands of baby names collected from the website’s registered users.
This year, the list was compiled from data submitted by 742,000 parents.
