A mother of four with two broken marriages ventures with the help of online tutorials to build her own house!

Cara Brookins’ family lives in Arkansas, she and her kids had experienced a bitter life already and they all needed something better to put back their life on track.

“I felt ashamed and I was worried that they had no self-esteem and no confidence,” Cara said.

So they set out on a mission to get the family together to work on building a house.

She did not have any knowledge of construction, nor was she qualified for the task of building a house.  In the year 2007 she made her first move. She found a plot of land with the foundations of a house that that had been destroyed by a tornado.

Cara and her team learned from YouTube tutorials, planned and designed the 3,500 square feet construction area, of two stories, with five bedrooms, a three-car garage, and a huge shop. Cara took a bank loan of $150,000 for construction materials.

The family would watch tutorials on YouTube, then discuss and do the ground level work together bit by bit. They put their thoughts into action, laying concrete, brick, carpentry work, and each day’s work was completed as planned. Sharing, discussing, and working here was a unique environment to make them feel a sense of responsibility and dedication.

Finally the day came when they finished the construction.
