The Russian investigative committee said on Wednesday (April 5) that they searched the apartment of suspected St. Petersburg subway bomber, Akbarzhon Jalilov.
The committee identified Jalilov’s genetic traces from a bag containing an explosive device. The committee also had surveillance footage showing Jalilov leaving his apartment with a backpack hours before the blast. Surveillance cameras near the subway showed a man was in a red jacket, wearing glasses and a hat, and carrying a bag on his back walking into the station on Monday (April 3).
Kyrgyz officials identified the suspect as Akbarzhon Jalilov, born in the city of Osh in 1995. Law enforcement officials said the suspect had radical Islamist links.
Jalilov’s parents arrived in St. Petersburg from his hometown in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. Jalilov’s mother, Odinakhon, said she did not believe her son was the bomber.
The bombing in a train car on Monday (April 3) killed 14 people and wounded 50. Many St. Petersburg residents said they were scared to use public transit.
