Mother prepares for her baby’s funeral but then a miracle happens

Expecting a baby is the most awaited moment for any mother-to-be. For this expecting mother in Iowa, it was difficult to decide if she should be happy or sad because doctors predicted her baby wouldn’t live more than two hours after birth. But then the miracle happened and the baby survived!

Autumn was advised by the doctors to terminate her pregnancy just a few months after she had conceived. The reason, the doctors had noticed that the little baby girl’s brain had filled up with fluid, she had an enlarged heart and the liver was not so good either. The doctors warned her that the baby would not live more than an hour or two after birth.

Autumn had experienced the pain of losing a loved one, as her mother had just passed away. But, the heartbroken mother was very sure she did not want to abort.

“Just a few days before, we had my mom’s funeral,” Autumn told WQAD. “So my dad and I were planning on buying two plots so that they could be next to each other. The doctors gave me the option to terminate the pregnancy, but I knew that wasn’t an option for me.”

As days passed the mother grew anxious, but did not change her mind about carrying her baby girl Fiona, to term. Finally the day arrived. At first the baby was quiet, but then Autumn heard the baby girl’s first cry and she knew in her heart that the doctors were wrong.

“Holding her, I hoped they were wrong,” she said. “It was terrifying. And then I heard her first cry, and I just knew. I just knew she’d be OK.”

Autumn felt so relieved and happy that she had followed her heart, as little Fiona was born with a cyst in her brain, but was otherwise miraculously healthy.

“We went from thinking we were going to have to plan her funeral to, we get to bring her home, and she’s healthy, for the most part,” the mom said. “She’s a miracle.”
