Mud Experience

Mud Experience

A healing experience with mud.

On Daecheon beach of Boryeong, 200 km south of Seoul, South Korea, a Land of Mud Experience is created. Every year in mid July, tens of thousands flocked in to experience the mud pool, mud slides, mud skiing, and even mud prison.

Last year it boasted 4 million visitors, among them 430,000 foreigners.

“We are from Singapore. We’re really having a lot of fun here in Boryeong,” a young man said after splashing mud on the face of his buddy.

“It’s great fun. It puts you in a good mood, as if back to the childhood.” Upon these words, both fell into the mud pool with a laughter.

The mud is trucked to the beach from the Boryeong mud flats. Known for its richness in minerals, the mud is used to manufacture cosmetics.

But what could be more healing than a hearty laugh (fight) with your friends?

The 20th Mud Festival in Boryeong ended on July 30. If you missed it, you can travel to Rotorua in New Zealand in their summer time, where the southern hemisphere’s first Mudtopia Festival will be held from 1-3 December this year.
