Naked 2-Year-Old Found Walking Outside on ‘Extremely Cold Night;’ Parents Charged

After their 2-year-old was found walking outside naked on a frosty night, two parents were arrested in upstate New York on Saturday, Dec. 30.

It was unclear how long the child had been outside, but she was found in good health by North Seneca ambulances crews.

Aaron Mangum, 35, and Beth Mangum, 29, were arrested and charged with the endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

According to Weather Underground, the temperature for the day in the geographical where the toddler was found was about 15 degrees Fahrenheit. She was discovered at 8:26 p.m.

The Mangums were released on an appearance ticket; their court date is Jan. 10 in Seneca Falls Town Court.

Child Protective Services are conducting an investigation as well, reported WHEC.

Commenters on’s article were dismayed with the situation.

Others, however, said it wasn’t a big deal.

“My mother worked nights. While she was taking a nap after work I got out. I was four years old,” said one. “These things happen. Stop making judgments.”

“That poor kid needs new parents,” said one commenter.

“I have to say this is miraculous because how often do people spot things, look out their windows,” said another. “Thank God the child is alive.”

The town of Seneca Falls is in upstate New York and has a population of around 9,000, according to the 2010 census. It’s around 5 hours driving distance northwest of New York City.
