In the NBA, the league resumes its in-season tournament. One of the early surprises is that Denver—the reigning champs—has already been eliminated.

If you blink, you’ll miss the group stage. It’s only four games long, and they went 2-2.

Meanwhile, they have a very good record on the season. I believe they’re 12-6—and these count towards that record. It’s just a very quick tournament.

Only eight of the league’s 30 teams will advance to the quarterfinals and only 2 of those have been decided—the rest will get sorted out tonight.

Amazingly, the Lakers are one of those 2 who’ve already qualified—going 4-0. Yet their regular season mark would only get them the last seed in the playoffs.

So I think it’ll be interesting to see how far the winner of this tournament actually goes in the playoffs, later on, when it’s best-of-seven.
