Technically, the technique is not limited to guitars. If you have a really big tank and enough friends to help, theoretically you could even paint your car this way.

Swirl painting or water transfer painting is basically what it sounds like it is, and because it uses water as a medium you can paint every single crack, crevice, even the smallest holes you can’t reach with a brush or airbrush. While being efficient it’s also easy. Put some clear coat on afterwards and it will last forever!

If you want to try it yourself, you need a bucket, barrel, trash bin or whatever you can fill with water, but also fit the object in. Then you’ll need the paint itself, which you’ll find at a building supplies store. You also need additives for the paint to form a layer on the water.

Put the colors onto the water and arrange them into pattern, and then carefully lower the object into the water. Be careful not to break the paint-layer. Varying by the speed and angle you put the object in will produce different patterns. Last step, this is where you may need the help of your friends to pull out the finished object. Well Done!
