Locals who live near where a half-naked, possibly handcuffed woman rang a doorbell in the middle of the night said they’re spooked by the incident.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Texas posted the surveillance camera footage on its Facebook page. The woman, wearing only a T-shirt, appears terrified and also seems to be wearing broken restrains around her wrists.

The footage has been now been covered by national news websites as well as international outlets like the BBC, with amateur Internet sleuths trying to figure out what happened. The woman has not yet been found or identified.

Sean Simmonds, who lives in the area, said the woman had rung the doorbell of several different neighbor’s homes. The woman disappeared by the time they answered, ABC News reported.

ABC also reported that police have scoured the area around Sunrise Ranch in Montgomery, located north of Houston.

Worried residents of Sunrise Ranch said they are fearing for the woman’s safety.

“We still don’t know who the girl is—if she’s local, if she’s from somewhere else, does she come from within the neighborhood,” Chris Geros, who is a neighbor, told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Aug. 28.

“The look on her face, but she was being very very quiet… she just looked distressed,” added another resident, Kelly Bordon, to the outlet.

“I’ve got a 9-year-old daughter at home,” neighbor, Branson Golson, was quoted by ABC as saying. “It worries me what’s going on in the neighborhood.”

The resident of the home with the surveillance footage heard the doorbell, but the woman disappeared. The resident gave the footage to local police

“It was kind of scary because this girl looked like she was just in a shirt. She looked like she had wrist restraints on her wrist and she was barefoot. You can see her with a worry on her face looking around,” the resident told Click2Houston.

A number of locals have sent missing person flyers saying the woman in the video is missing from their area, according to a Fox8 report, adding that the office is reviewing the flyers.

“Numerous citizens in the state and outside have sent missing persons flyers suggesting the women in the video is a missing person from their area,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement on Aug. 26. “Deputies and Detectives are reviewing these flyers for any similarities, but as of now none are believed to be the women in the video.”

The sheriff’s office later asked commenters to “quit speculating on the woman” after the video was uploaded on Facebook, Fox8 said.

The office told KHOU that the woman doesn’t appear to correspond to any missing person reports. “There’s still a lot to be done,” he said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said that anyone with information about the woman should contact them at 936-760-5800.
