Neighbors of a New Jersey couple heard them arguing loudly the night before an apparent murder-suicide.

Lydiah Okongo, 40, was found dead on Monday morning, March 5, with multiple gunshots in her head and torso.

Henry Okongo, 51, was also found dead in the couple’s home in Jersey City, with a gunshot wound to his head.

Police officers believe Henry Okongo killed his wife before committing suicide.

A family member discovered the bodies, reported The Jersey Journal.

Their kids, a 2-month-old and a 5-year-old, were found alive inside.

Neighbors apparently heard the Okongo’s involved in a loud argument the night before the deaths.

“They quarreled a lot and they would separate for long periods only to come together again,” Dr. George Omburo, an elder at a local church, told The Nation.

He said neighbors told him they heard a quarrel on Sunday night.

Neighbors said that Lydiah Okongo worked as a nurse while her husband owned multiple laundromats in the area.

Hundreds of area residents helped Henry Okongo save one of his laundromats on Martin Luther King Drive when his lease was up in 2013 but he was behind on rent, according to The Jersey Journal.

He also owned both the home that his family lived in and a nearby home.

Henry Okongo’s brother used to live in his other home but later moved to North Carolina.

Neighbors told The Journal that the couple lived in the home for at least a decade.

The Okongos emigrated to the United States from Kenya.

Area residents also said that the couple was hard-working and “lovely people,” and they expressed surprise over the news of the two deaths.

Local officers are investigating the case and are urging members of the public with any information to call 911 or the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at 201-945-1345.

The prosecutor’s office hasn’t released any information on the case.
