A new report shines light on a big concern: the flow of U.S. technology to China and how it could be helping Beijing advance its military.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul released the report, accusing a key U.S. government agency of not doing enough to stop the flow.
The agency is the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, or BIS. It’s key to U.S.-China competition because it controls whether or not China can get its hands on U.S. technology through export restrictions.
American companies looking to sell technology to blacklisted Chinese companies must apply for a license from the bureau.
