A new Federal Trade Commission report found that pharmacy-benefit managers significantly influence the price and availability of drugs. The three largest PBMs control 79 percent of American drug prescriptions. Federal regulators say these middlemen are greatly profiting at the expense of consumers and smaller pharmacies. The FTC is suggesting tighter regulations to control how these companies operate.
