New York Lawmakers to Vote on Law Protecting Minors on Social Media

New York lawmakers are expected to vote on a bill that would allow parents to block their children from getting social media posts curated by a platform’s algorithm, as early as this week.

The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act would require social media companies to organize content by chronological order for minors instead of curating personalized feeds with algorithms. It also includes other requirements, including restricting social media apps from sending notifications at night unless parents give explicit permission.
