Parents and children in need of some outdoor fun took advantage of the snow in New York, after a snowstorm hit the northeast Wednesday evening.
New Yorkers were sliding down the freshly fallen snow on Pilgrim Hill in Central Park on Thursday.
They were making the best of the winter storm that marched up the East Coast the night before.
Nadia Lennert, who was in the park with her son, Nicholas, joined him downhill a couple of times as well.
“Oh, we’re out with our kids in Central Park, having a snow day, off of school and having a wonderful time sledding and playing in the snow. It’s been terrific,” she said.
Children played with snow and encouraged each other to be brave on their inflatable and plastic sleds.
The winter storm dropped its biggest load of snow on an inland swath from north central Pennsylvania through southern New Hampshire.
The heaviest snowfall by Thursday morning was 45 inches near Binghamton, New York.
The National Weather Service said the storm left the New York City area with 6 to 10 inches as it died down Thursday morning. That’s more than all of last year’s winter storms combined.
