North Korea has threatened to launch an “annihilating attack” against U.S. and South Korean troops participating in the annual Foal Eagle military exercises.

On Sunday, March 26, Korean news broadcast warnings calling the two nations “war maniacs” who were targeting “supreme leader” Kim Jong Un.

“Our military declares our stand to mercilessly smash all of enemy’s moves with our own pre-emptive special operation and attack, as the wicked plan for the U.S. and South Korean war maniacs’ special operations aiming at our supreme leader is becoming apparent and an attempt for a deadly pre-emptive strike against us is revealed,” said a reporter from North Korea’s state-run KRT news.

“As long as the U.S. and South Korea’s troops and means, which are involved in their special operation and pre-emptive attack targeting us, remain in and around South Korea, they should keep in mind that our military will carry out annihilating attack at anytime without any prior warning.”

Each year, North Korea pretends that the regular exercises are in fact preparations for an a attack on the North.

Foal Eagle will continue through the end of April. Last year it involved 17,000 U.S. troops and 300,000 South Korean soldiers.

The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and special forces including Navy SEAL Team 6, Army Rangers, Delta Force, and Green Berets, are reportedly set to take part in the joint exercises.
