A passenger plane in Brazil crashed into a residential area near Sao Paulo, killing all 61 people on board, according to the airline. It was a turboprop plane on a regional route. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

A federal judge delayed former President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6 case to at least Sept. 5, at the request of special counsel Jack Smith. Prosecutors with Smith’s office want more time to decide how to proceed after the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.

A California man was sentenced to 20 years in prison in one of the longest sentences so far among Jan. 6 defendants. Prosecutors say he repeatedly attacked police with flagpoles and other makeshift weapons during the Capitol breach.

The United States announced a $125 million military package for Ukraine that will include Stinger missiles, artillery ammunition, and anti-armor systems. It came as Russia declared a state of emergency in its southern Kursk region after Ukrainian troops launched a surprise cross-border incursion.
