The U.S. Navy had already detected the implosion of the Titanic-bound submersible Titan on Sunday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. That was days before news of the implosion was made public on June 22. The Navy quickly provided this information to aid the search and rescue efforts, although its significance was unknown at the time. The Coast Guard announced on June 22 that no one had survived the Titan’s deepwater expedition. Meanwhile, James Cameron, director of the movie ‘Titanic’ and a deep-sea explorer, said he was skeptical about the make-up of the submersible’s hull.
