Opening statements began on Friday in the trial of the man accused of killing 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley in February. Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, is charged with murder and other crimes in a case that helped fan the immigration debate during the recent election cycle.
The family of Malcolm X, a civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1965, filed a $100-million federal lawsuit on Friday that accuses the FBI, the CIA, and the New York Police Department of allowing his murder to be carried out. The lawsuit alleges the law enforcement agencies concealed evidence that they had known of the plot to kill him but did nothing to stop it.
