A tragic end for a Boeing whistleblower as John Barnett—a former quality control engineer for Boeing and a vocal critic of the company’s safety practices—has died in what is being reported as a suicide.

Mr. Barnett, who worked at Boeing for 30 years and was a crucial witness in a whistleblower lawsuit against the aerospace giant, was found dead on the day he was due to appear in court. His lawsuit exposed severe concerns about Boeing’s quality control, and particularly with the 737 and 787 aircraft programs. Boeing has expressed its condolences, but has not addressed Mr. Barnett’s allegations directly.
