A government notice from a city in southeastern China listed the city's basic pension payouts for January.

Beneficiaries fall into three categories: retirees of the CCP’s state organs, those of general companies, and rural or low-income residents.

Here are some calculations based on that data.

For the first category, a total of around $10 million was granted to 13,000 people or an average of $750 per person per month.

For the second category, over $26 million were distributed to 75,000 people or $350 per person.

But for rural or low-income seniors, more than 130,000 people shared the equivalent of $4 million. This leaves about $30 for each recipient.

As a comparison, this figure is only one-25th of the amount received by a retired communist party official.
