One detainee is dead and two others critically injured after a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, Texas.

The FBI is investigating Wednesday’s deadly shooting as an “act of targeted violence” against federal agents.

The shooting happened around 6:40 a.m. in the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway.

A sniper armed with a rifle opened fire on the ICE facility from a nearby rooftop, killing one detainees. Two detainees was shot and remain in critical condition.

No ICE agents were hurt. The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a <a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/1970899669422080352">statement</a>.

According to FBI Director Kash Patel, ammunition found at the scene contained anti-ICE messaging.

“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack,” FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/1970877754221498599">wrote in a statement</a>.

Patel also shared on social media an image of recovered unspent shell casings engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE.”

“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off,” Patel said. “We are only miles from Prarieland, Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.”

On his Truth Social platform, President Donald Trump accused "Radical Left Democrats" of stoking anti-ICE violence by "constantly demonizing Law Enforcement, calling for ICE to be demolished, and comparing ICE Officers to Nazis."

Invoking the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Trump said that "radical left terrorists" pose a "grave threat" to law enforcement and "must be stopped."

Trump said he would sign an executive order this week to "dismantle these domestic terrorism networks."

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later appeared on Fox and confirmed media reports that the suspected gunman had been identified as Joshua Jahn, 29. She said he had fired into the building from a nearby rooftop.

Earlier on Wednesday, Noem noted the increase in violence against federal agents as the Trump administration continues to crack down on illegal immigration nationwide.

"While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families," <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1970832644213465133">Noem wrote on X</a>.

Later on Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security said it was responding to the shooting with increased security nationwide.

“In light of today’s horrific shooting that was motivated by hatred for ICE, Secretary Noem has ordered DHS to immediately begin increasing security at ICE facilities across the country,” the agency <a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/1970991361684881910">wrote</a> on X.

Footage from local media shows heavy law enforcement presence in the area. Authorities were spotted on the rooftop of a building investigating the scene.

Vice President JD Vance condemned Wednesday’s targeted shooting.

"The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I'm praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families," Vice President <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/category/person/jd-vance">JD Vance</a> wrote on X.

FBI, DHS, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) continue to investigate, along with Dallas Police and state authorities.

FBI Special Agent Joe Rothrock said during a press conference that this is the most recent example of this type of attack.

“This will be a whole of government response, there will be no source not utilized to bring all those individuals involved to justice,” Rothrock said.
