A freight train operated by Union Pacific derailed Tuesday afternoon in rural Texas, with 35 cars coming off the tracks near the small community of Gordon, according to railroad officials.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. in an area situated roughly 65 miles southwest of Fort Worth, according to Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver. Emergency responders classified the situation as involving hazardous materials, though authorities have not disclosed the specific cargo the derailed cars were carrying.

News footage from the scene showed multiple railway cars stacked upon one another along the tracks in the remote area. Grass fires ignited near the derailment area, with visible smoke spotted near the site.

"All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. The situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled," the Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1 stated in an official announcement <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=122137026596851886&id=61575556586794">posted</a> on Facebook.

Emergency officials confirmed that none of the overturned cars leaked any of the hazardous materials. No evacuation orders have been issued for the surrounding area, and no structural damage to nearby buildings has occurred.

Firefighters focused on containing multiple small grass fires that erupted following the derailment. The Palo Pinto Fire Department actively worked to extinguish the blazes, Tysver said.

"Fire officials are actively working to contain and extinguish them, and no structures are currently threatened," emergency services officials said in their Facebook post.

The spokeswoman confirmed that Union Pacific response teams were traveling to the location to assess the damage and begin cleanup.

This derailment follows other recent railway incidents across different countries. In late July, a passenger train derailment in southern <a href="https://www.ntd.com/at-least-3-killed-and-others-injured-in-train-derailment-in-southern-germany_1081476.html">Germany</a> near Riedlingen resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries when carriages overturned in a forested area. Approximately 100 passengers were aboard when the accident took place, with investigators examining whether severe weather contributed to the crash.

Earlier this year, <a href="https://www.ntd.com/freight-train-derails-in-czech-republic-causing-major-chemical-fire_1050931.html">Czech</a> firefighters battled a major chemical fire after a freight train carrying benzene derailed near Hustopeče nad Bečvou in February. That incident involved 15 burning tank cars, each containing approximately 60 metric tons of the carcinogenic substance, though no injuries were reported.

The closest homes in the town were located about 500 meters—about a quarter mile—from the fire, but smoke did not reach them.

The Texas derailment investigation remains ongoing, with officials working to determine the cause. Union Pacific has not released additional details about the timeline for track repairs or service restoration in the affected area.
