On Tuesday, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China held a hearing to reflect on the 1989 Tiananmen massacre in Beijing.

In April 1989, millions of citizens in China flocked to Tiananmen Square. They were calling for an open and fair society while demanding that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) address corruption and nepotism in its ranks. The demonstration lasted for around seven weeks, until the night of June 3 when hundreds of thousands of troops rolled in with tanks and began to open fire indiscriminately at the crowds.
