3 Dead in Suspected Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Ship in Atlantic Ocean: WHO

A 32-year-old man fatally stabbed four people on Tuesday morning in a residential neighborhood on Washington state’s Key Peninsula. The suspect died after he was shot by a responding deputy.

The violence erupted outside a home in the 14000 block of 87th Avenue Court Northwest, where witnesses began calling 911 shortly after 9:30 a.m. to report that a man was attacking people with a knife.

A deputy arrived within minutes. Gunfire was reported at about 9:33 a.m., according to a Facebook post from the <a href="https://fb.watch/FtWJiaqNWp/">Pierce County Sheriff’s Office</a>. The suspect was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Carly Cappetto spoke about the incident in a video posted by the sheriff's office on Facebook. "We are on a very active and tragic scene where we have five deceased people," she said.

By the time the scene was secured, three victims had died outside the home. A fourth victim was transported by Gig Harbor Fire to a hospital but later died from her injuries.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “There were four deceased individuals, including the 32-year-old male suspect, and a fifth victim was immediately transported by Gig Harbor Fire and later succumbed to their injuries.”

The stabbing unfolded after a judge had issued a no-contact court order against the suspect months earlier. At approximately 8:41 a.m., deputies were dispatched following a report that the man had come to the residence in violation of a no-contact order. After reviewing the situation, deputies determined the order had not yet been formally served on the man and was therefore not enforceable. They obtained a copy of the order and headed to the location intending to serve it.

Before deputies could make contact, however, dispatchers began receiving reports that the man was actively stabbing individuals outside the home.

A judge had approved a one-year protection order involving the suspect and the residents of the home. The request had come from a woman who identified the restrained party as her 32-year-old son. In her written filing, she pointed to his alleged struggles with drugs and mental health, described being pushed during a prior encounter with him, and recounted a statement she had interpreted as a threat, after he said her “grave has been already dug up.”

The stabbings occurred in a cul-de-sac northwest of Tacoma.

“The Pierce County Force Investigation Team has taken over this investigation, and the scene is very active,” the sheriff's office said a statement on Facebook.

Preliminary statewide crime data show that homicides in Washington declined in 2024 compared with the previous year. According to statistics from the <a href="https://www.waspc.org/assets/CJIS/2024%20Crime%20in%20Washington-compressed%208-2025.pdf">Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs</a>, there were 312 murders statewide in 2024, down nearly 19 percent from 384 in 2023.
