Prosecutors in Former President Donald Trump’s case involving an alleged crime surrounding a payment to a lawyer are asking for a January trial date. NTD speaks to Robert Henneke, the executive director and general counsel of the Texas Public Policy Foundation and a former Texas prosecutor, who questions the timing of District Attorney Bragg’s prosecution.

“This is very nakedly tied to the election activities. It's an improper case. I think it's an abuse of power. And the DA is absolutely using this to try to influence the outcome of next year's election,” Henneke said.

Henneke also alleges the case will be used to influence the upcoming presidential election.

“Any time that President Trump is gaining momentum or any time that Biden is stumbling along the campaign trail, the New York DA is going to set a hearing or have some kind of announcement or something to haul President Trump back to state criminal district court as a way of breaking up his momentum,” Henneke said.
