Hundreds of Jan. 6 defendants who are either serving prison sentences or awaiting judgment may let out a sigh of relief after the Supreme Court ruled Friday that the sweeping obstruction charge applies only to proceedings involving evidence tampering. Any defendant who entered the Capitol but didn't touch any documents could be released or face a lighter sentence.
