Beijing appears to be increasing its ability to launch a nuclear strike against the United States.

What's driving the speculation is a military complex taking shape in the desert of China's northwestern Xinjiang region. The complex includes over 80 launch pads, three octagon-shaped installations, and several bunkers. Launch pads are platforms used to launch missiles.

The facilities are located near silos that store China's longest-range nuclear missiles capable of reaching the United States.

Analysts told Reuters the developments suggest a major upgrade in Beijing's efforts to strengthen its nuclear strike capability.
