President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement, saying China can continue buying Iranian oil despite longstanding U.S. sanctions. The statement came just hours after a cease-fire deal between Israel and Iran. Trump spoke on the subject earlier on Wednesday: "I'm not giving up. They're in the oil business. I mean, I could stop it if I wanted — I could sell China the oil myself. I don't want to do that. They're going to need money to put that country back into shape. We want to see that happen."

Iran's defense minister arrived in China on Wednesday, marking his first trip since the United States and Israel struck several of Iran's nuclear facilities.
