In recent years, a number of examples have raised red flags among netizens.

And some of the country's state-owned media now appear to have few reservations about tweaking the facts in their coverage—ranging from street interviews to media coverage of Chinese police officers, and to even coverage of top Chinese Communist Party officials—though it seems those outlets don't always get it right.

In this week's special report, we dive into some cases where apparent media blunders managed to surface, despite what look like efforts to carefully craft the news.
