Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minnesota are still surging.

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Tricia McLaughlin said that more than 2,000 arrests have been made since the Minnesota operation "Operation Metro Surge" began. The DHS said it is the largest immigration operation in history.

According to the <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/01/08/radical-rhetoric-sanctuary-politicians-leads-unprecedented-1300-increase-assaults">DHS</a>, 2025 saw a 1,300 percent increase in assaults against ICE officers and a 3,200 percent increase in vehicular attacks.

“Just last week alone, we saw 10 vehicle rammings—that's the weaponization of a vehicle, a deadly weapon, against our law enforcement—and we're seeing that's becoming a more and more common tactic,” McLaughlin told Fox News.

The department blames “radical rhetoric by sanctuary politicians” for the surge in attacks against federal law enforcement. There was also an 8,000 percent increase in death threats against officers, according to the DHS.

Homeland Security reported 275 assaults during the Trump administration’s 2025 term, compared to 19 reported assaults in the same period during the prior administration’s 2024 term, for a 1,347 percent increase.

In about the same time period, there were 66 vehicular attacks against personnel, compared to two such attacks in 2024, the department said.

Vehicle attacks have been in the spotlight since the Jan. 7 incident involving an ICE-related shooting resulting in the death of a protester who drove her car at an ICE agent.

The DHS says the agent fired in self-defense after the woman disobeyed instructions from law enforcement and then drove toward the officer. Other commentators say the woman wasn’t aiming for the agent.
