Investigators believe Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old missing mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted.

"We believe 100 percent right now she could not have walked away from that home," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News on Monday. "I believe she was abducted, yes. She didn't walk from there. She didn't go willingly. We don't believe that."

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Jan. 31 at her home in the Tucson area of Arizona, near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue.

Guthrie, who lives alone, was reported missing around noon on Sunday after she didn’t show up to church, prompting family members to search for her at her home and then call 911.

Nanos told a press conference earlier on Monday that evidence of a crime has been found at the home of Nancy Guthrie.

"We believe now, after we processed that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene that we do, in fact, have a crime," the Pima County Sheriff said during a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz2zziKWBWw">press conference</a>.

The sheriff also stressed that Guthrie is "as sharp as a tack” and her disappearance is not dementia-related. Guthrie, however, suffers physical challenges, the sheriff said.  If she doesn't take her daily medication within 24 hours, it could be "fatal," Nanos said.

He added that search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,”  he said.

Crews were using drones and search dogs to look for Guthrie. Search and rescue teams, volunteers, the Border Patrol, and the homicide team were also involved in the search. It’s not standard for the homicide team to get involved in such cases, the sheriff said.

The "Today" show opened Monday by covering the disappearance of  Savannah Guthrie’s mother, but the co-anchor was not there. The sheriff confirmed during his press conference that the co-host is currently in Arizona as the investigation into her disappearance continues.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” Savannah Guthrie said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy."

The on-air personality has publicly spoken about the relationship with her mother, previously revealing that her mother was forced to be a single parent after her father died.

Authorities are asking the public for any information that may help their investigation.

A missing person’s flyer described Guthrie as a “vulnerable adult, five feet and five inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
