A video from earlier this week captures the empty streets of Nanjing Road in Shanghai city. This road was one of the most prosperous commercial streets in the whole country, but now many shops are closed. It reflects the current state of financial difficulties facing China.

Another video, taken around the same time, showed a shopping center in another economically developed city, Shenzhen, in southern China, showing a shopping center that was almost empty.

Nearly 70 percent of companies in one of China's most important economic centers, the Pearl River Delta, are reportedly considering a big change. They will be moving part of their production capacity out of China.

About two thirds of them say they're motivated by the impacts of the pandemic, while one third attribute the possible relocation to other reasons.

During the first three quarters of this year, around 390,000 Chinese Communist Party officials were punished for corruption and other disciplinary violations, according to a report issued over the weekend by China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

From January to September, the inspection department received 2.37 million complaints and reports of corruption by CCP officials from across the country.
