Cosmetics empire Estee Lauder announced on Sunday that its chairman emeritus, Leonard Lauder, died on Saturday at the age of 92. The company did not reveal the cause of death.

Lauder was the oldest son of the company's founders, Estée and Joseph Lauder. He was a former CEO and played a key role in transforming the business from a handful of products sold under a single brand in U.S. stores to a multi-brand cosmetics giant.

Besides his work in cosmetics, he was known for his philanthropic work and for supporting the arts. He was also a strong advocate for breast cancer and Alzheimer's research.
