The FBI executed search warrants at the headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the residence of its superintendent on Feb. 25.

LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, a nationally recognized school administrator, has led the nation’s second-largest school system since February 2022.

A third search warrant was served at a location near Miami, where Carvalho led the public school system from 2008 to 2021.

Rukelt Dalberis, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, confirmed that agents were at the properties to serve warrants. The nature of the FBI’s investigation remains under seal.

The district said in a statement Wednesday that it is cooperating with the investigation but declined to release any details.

"We have been informed of law enforcement activity at Los Angeles Unified School District headquarters and at the home of the Superintendent," the statement <a href="https://x.com/LASchools/status/2026742572736196941?s=20">reads</a>. "The District is cooperating with the investigation and we do not have further information at this time."

Footage from local media outlets captured FBI agents wearing blue jackets and carrying cardboard boxes out of his home in San Pedro, south of downtown Los Angeles.

According to his LAUSD biography, Carvalho’s leadership has led to historic academic progress, including double-digit increases in performance across core subjects and new records in state testing.

He also spearheaded the 2022–2026 Ready for the World Strategic Plan that included various initiatives that transformed the district, his biography states.

The raids on Wednesday mark the second time in a week the Department of Justice has taken action against the nation’s second largest school district.

On Feb. 19, the Trump administration joined a lawsuit launched by the 1776 Project Foundation, alleging the district discriminates against white students by enforcing a desegregation policy that provides smaller class sizes and other benefits to schools with predominantly Hispanic, black, Asian, or other non-white students.
