Florida is the latest state to embrace President Donald Trump’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative—spearheaded by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—a part of principles followed at the state level.

And among the first items on the MAHA agenda is ending vaccine mandates in Florida—an issue that received rousing praise during a press conference on Wednesday.

“The Florida Department of Health, in partnership with the governor, is going to be working to end all vaccine mandates in Florida law,” said state Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, dramatically emphasizing, “All of them!”

As the applause concluded, Ladapo continued, saying that vaccine mandates “drips with disdain and slavery.” Ladapo rhetorically asked those in the audience, “Who am I as a government or anyone else or a man standing up here … to tell you what you should put in your body?”

“Your body is a gift from God,” Ladapo said with a wide smile.

Ladapo said the government wants people to think they have a right to put whatever they want into your bodies, but with Florida MAHA now established, that misconception will end.
<h2>DeSantis Announces MAHA Commission</h2>
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also spoke at the press conference, beginning with: “Today, I am pleased to announce the establishment of the Florida MAHA Commission as a working group which will recommend state-level integration of these Make America Healthy principles.

“And those principles are, as I mentioned, individual medical freedom, informed consent, parent rights, and also market innovation.”

The Florida MAHA Commission, DeSantis said, will be chaired by his wife First Lady Casey DeSantis and Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins. It will also include Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, Agency for Health Care Administration Shevaun Harris, Department of Children and Families Secretary Taylor Hatch, and other officials and experts in the fields of nutrition, health, vaccine safety, and family practice.

At Wednesday’s press conference, DeSantis touted the Sunshine State’s proactive efforts to improve health outcomes and make Florida healthy again.

“I think this is something that has great potential,” DeSantis said. “We’ve already done a lot. And I don’t think there’s any state that has done even close to what we’ve done in the state of Florida over these many years.”

Added DeSantis: “But there’s always more to do, we always want to stay ahead of the curve.”

The announcement has already generated interest amongst residents of the state. One Clearwater resident, Chris Emery, told NTD that he is pleased the state is moving in the right direction and getting government out of the lives of himself and his fellow Floridians.

“I’ve lived in Florida for over 10 years,” Emery said. “I experienced the COVID lockdown in Florida. Thank goodness we had Gov. DeSantis and Dr. Ladapo to lead us through that fiasco with a common-sense approach to the frivolous federal mandates, etc. We’re very proud to have them as our state governor and surgeon general. They continue to do an excellent job for all of us.”
