Inside federal court on Friday, former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang pleaded guilty to acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government—the People's Republic of China. Prosecutors say the conduct took place before she was elected to the Arcadia City Council.

According to federal prosecutors, Wang, 56, admitted that between 2020 and 2022, she worked with officials of the Chinese regime while helping operate a Chinese-language news website, US News Center, aimed at Chinese Americans.

Prosecutors say Wang worked on the website with her former fiancé, Mike Sun, posting articles at the direction of the Chinese Communist Party, and then reporting back with screenshots showing how many people viewed the content.
