It's focused on former Chinese former minister Qin Gang. From July 2021 through January this year, he worked as China's top envoy to the United States.

According to the Wall Street Journal, he had an affair during that time.

Beijing wants to know Qin's secrets in the process.

Senior Chinese officials were briefed about the incident. Sources told the Wall Street Journal that the affair had resulted in the birth of a child in the U.S..
