DNA recovered from a glove found about two miles from the home of missing Arizona grandmother Nancy Guthrie did not match any profile in the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Monday in a <a href="https://x.com/PimaSheriff/status/2023831510651204069?s=20">post</a> on X. The agency added that other DNA recovered inside Guthrie’s home is still undergoing analysis.

Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her Catalina Foothills home on Jan. 31 and was reported missing the next day when she failed to arrive at church. Her wallet, car, cellphone, hearing aid, and daily medications were left behind, and investigators found her blood on the front porch. Authorities believe she was abducted.

Doorbell camera footage showed a masked figure in thick gloves and carrying a backpack approach the home, appearing armed and trying to obstruct the camera with plants. Investigators later recovered a glove near the house that the FBI said appears to match one worn by the masked person in the video, and federal agents collected a total of 16 gloves in the neighborhood, mostly discarded by volunteer searchers.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly ruled out Guthrie’s relatives as suspects, calling them “victims plain and simple.” In a Feb. 16 <a href="https://x.com/PimaSheriff/status/2023500234454954354?s=20">statement</a>, he said “the Guthrie family - to include all siblings and spouses - has been cleared as possible suspects in this case” and pleaded with journalists to “report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.”

Nanos, in an <a href="https://www.ntd.com/pima-county-sheriffs-office-guthrie-family-cleared-as-possible-suspects_1126525.html">interview</a> with the New York Times, described the investigation as “exhausting” and said he is prepared to search for “weeks or months or years” if necessary, vowing, “We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”

The widening search has pushed into the rocky desert terrain around Guthrie’s home, where local deputies and federal agents have fanned out on foot, tagged and towed a vehicle from a nearby restaurant parking lot, and canvassed neighbors for surveillance footage from several dates in late January and early February.

Meanwhile, Guthrie’s children have stepped into the public eye, trying to keep attention on the case and speak directly to whoever may be holding their mother. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have posted emotional video messages, including appeals addressing purported ransom demands sent to news outlets.

“It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope and we still believe,” Savannah Guthrie said in a recent <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUzJ-_1AWWF/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==">Instagram</a> message. “You’re not lost or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing. We are here. And we believe. And we believe in the essential goodness of every human being.”

Authorities have stressed that time is critical because Nancy Guthrie requires daily medication, and the FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to her recovery or to the suspect’s capture. Anyone with information is urged to contact 1‑800‑CALL‑FBI, 88‑CRIME, 520‑351‑4900, or submit tips through the FBI’s website.
