House lawmakers unveiled a new bill this week to extend a controversial surveillance authority, known as Section 702 of FISA, through 2029. The proposal follows last week’s failed reauthorization effort, which was blocked by critics citing concerns over the violation of Americans’ privacy.

Congress must pass the measure by April 30 to prevent the surveillance authority from expiring.
