Cities across the United States are breaking decades-old temperature records this week, as a massive heat wave covers the central and eastern parts of the country.

Roughly 80 million people from Indiana to New England are under a heat advisory or an excessive heat warning. Officials are warning the heat wave could become a deadly weather event. Chicago has registered 97 degrees, breaking a record set in 1957. Detroit, Philadelphia, and cities in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maine are also due for record temperatures in the coming days.

However, it's much more difficult for babies and young children to regulate their own body temperatures, making them particularly vulnerable and much more sensitive to heat. So how can parents protect them? Holly Swenson, a registered nurse and the author of "Stop, Drop, Grow, & Glow," provides some advice.
