On Nov. 7, the eastern German city of Leipzig saw a protest against lockdown measures with over 20,000 people.

We spoke to several participants who were also there 31 years ago.

In the fall of 1989, up to half a million people went to the streets of Leipzig as well as other cities in then-communist East Germany to protest for more freedom.

The "peaceful revolution" was a key factor that led to bringing down the Berlin Wall and the end of the repressive regime.

Some participants remarked on similarities between today and three decades ago under communism.
