The star-studded FireAid benefit concert, held on Thursday night at the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, brought together some of the biggest names in music to raise funds for Los Angeles-area wildfire relief efforts.

The event featured a mix of performances, storytelling, and surprise collaborations to support the rebuilding of devastated communities in the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and other impacted areas.

One of the night's most talked-about moments was the reunion of Nirvana's surviving members, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear. The trio were joined by rotating guest vocalists, including St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Joan Jett, who filled in for the late Kurt Cobain on classics like "Breed," "School," and "Territorial Pissings." The performance peaked when Grohl's daughter, Violet, took the stage to sing "All Apologies."

The concert kicked off with an unexpected collaboration between Green Day and Billie Eilish. Eilish joined the band on stage during their performance of "Last Night on Earth," a song with lyrics that resonated with the purpose of the event.

"If I lose everything in the fire, I'm sending all my love to you,” she sang.

Comedian Billy Crystal, who lost his own home in the Palisades Fire, hosted the event wearing the same clothes he wore when evacuating.

He related the current crisis to the aftermath of 9/11, recalling memories from the Concert for New York City 23 years ago.

"And tonight, here I am, talking to all of you in pain," Crystal said. "But I'm also one of the hurting thousands asking, 'Have you seen my school?' 'Have you seen my church?' 'Have you seen my house?' 'Have you seen my town?' 'Have you seen the 29 people who lost their lives?'"

He shared a story about finding a rock with the word "Laughter" engraved on it among the wreckage of his home, praising the healing power of laughter during even the darkest times. "We'll laugh again," Crystal said to the audience. "Let's show the world who we are: We're Los Angeles, one city, one heart. L.A. Strong!"

The concert featured a diverse lineup of performers, each bringing a different energy and connection to the cause.

Dr. Dre made a surprise appearance, joining Anderson .Paak and Sheila E. on stage for renditions of his hit "Still D.R.E." and Tupac Shakur's "California Love." The rapper expressed his gratitude to first responders, stating, "I appreciate all the first responders and all the firemen who put their lives on the line.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers closed out the forum portion of the event as bassist Flea set the tone for their set with a dramatic entrance, performing a handstand on stage wearing only a black Speedo. The band sang some of their top hits, including "Californication" and "Give it Away," with Flea declaring to the crowd, "LA is our home. We ... love you."

The concert also included personal stories from homeowners in the communities devastated by the fires.

Quinta Brunson, star of the TV show "Abbott Elementary," introduced Glendale High School math teacher Aurora Barboza Flores, who shared her story of losing the Altadena home she had saved for over two decades. "So now I've lost more than my home. I've lost my community, too. I was so proud to be a homeowner, so proud to have a place to call my own in this city," Flores said.

The band Dawes, whose members Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith's homes were substantially damaged by the fires, performed sets with collaborations. Stephen Stills joined the band for a rendition of "For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey What's That Sound)," while Graham Nash came on stage to perform the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classic "Teach Your Children."

Nash summed up the spirit of the event, saying, "Whenever Los Angeles gets into trouble, the musicians are right there, and I'm proud to be one of them."

The night finished with a surprise performance by Lady Gaga, who debuted a new, upbeat song she reportedly wrote with her fiancé specifically for FireAid.

Throughout the evening, the performances were intermixed with images of the wildfire devastation and stories from those affected, serving as a reminder of the event’s purpose.
